Cisco − How
LAN Switches Work
This document covers the general concept of
how LAN switches work and the most common features available on a
LAN switch. It also covers the differences between bridging,
switching, and routing. This document does not cover any of the
Cisco Catalyst LAN switch product or configuration features on
Cisco Catalyst switches. If you want to learn about configuring
Catalyst Switches and more product information about Cisco
switches, refer to the following link:

Access VPNs And Tunneling Technologies.pdf
A virtual private network (VPN) is a
network that extends remote access to users over a shared
infrastructure. VPNs maintain the same security and management
policies as a private network. They are the most cost effective
method of establishing a point-to-point connection between remote
users and an enterprise customer’s network.

Cisco −
Understanding Multiple Spanning−Tree Protocol (802.1s)
Multiple Spanning−Tree (MST) is a new
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standard
inspired from Cisco's proprietary Multiple Instances Spanning−Tree
Protocol (MISTP) implementation. This document assumes that the
reader is familiar with Rapid Spanning−Tree Protocol (RSTP)
(802.1w), as MST heavily relies on this other IEEE standard. A
pre−standard MST is implemented as of CatOS 7.1 and Native Cisco
IOS® Version 12.1(11)EX. For more information on RSTP (802.1w),
refer to the following document:
