When driving around Maui, look in your rear view mirror occasionally and if you are holding up traffic, show some "Aloha" and pull over to let others by, who may be late for work (some people work over here).
Wear sunscreen always (even when cloudy) and rubber slippers (aka flip flops). Don't get matching aloha wear, whatever you do. Don't try to speak pidgin (local slang). Don't feed any animals or fish anywhere, ever. Remember to take nothing and leave nothing.
There is crime in paradise, so don't keep valuables in your car or trunk (there are trunk latches in the car). Don't leave your wallet on the beach when you swim, and play it smart.
Please note, when you are walking around, you may run into Activity Sales people. They only sell certain activities, from which they receive sales commissions from. They don't represent all the different Maui companies. Their recommendations are generally based on the highest commission rate, not what is always in your best interest.

Aloha from Maui and thank you for your interest in our Winery Bike Tour. We have lived and biked here on Maui in the Kula area of Haleakala for over 25 years. My Wife and I run the only Family run Bike Tour down Haleakala and finish at the Maui Winery. We are not like any of the other Bike Tour Companies on Maui. We offer a unique experience with the Best of Equipment, Food & Service. Our Bike Tour is not for everyone and we are quite different from all the other Downhill Bike Tours on Maui. We are the one only "ride at your own pace" fully supported Downhill Bike Tour to the Winery. We do not "Herd or Rush" you down the mountain, like most of the other Tours. We are proud to say, that 15% of our business is repeat Customers. In fact, check out what many of our Happy Customers have said about us @ Customer Comments .
We look forward to seeing you on one of our Tours and sharing with you our Aloha for this Magical Island of Maui!
Aloha nui loa!
Marc & Karen Friezner
The
Tour begins in the morning at scenic
Rice Park
in
Kula with a friendly get together and Continental Breakfast. Then
we board our Luxury Touring Van and head to the starting area for
the bike tour at the entrance to Haleakala National Park. We will
have a safety briefing and then you will be custom fitted and
familiarized with your own 24 speed Trek Comfort Bike. You will be
outfitted with all the necessary safety gear. We have a practice
area for you to get comfortable riding your bike. When you are
comfortably ready, you begin the first descent down the 21
switchbacks through Haleakala Ranch, at your own pace. Our first
stop is at spectacular Scenic Lookout for some great photo
shots.
Throughout the Tour you ride at your own pace and stop as often as
you like. The Tour Van will be following nearby at all times for
your convenience. At our second stop,
Sunrise Market & Protea
Flower Farm
, you may checkout their exotic Protea flowers.
Upon each stop on the Tour there will be water provided and safety
information and directions on the road ahead. There are several
optional routes for more avid cyclists, who would like to ride some
extra miles.
Our third stop is at
Keokea (aka China Town), where we ride on less traveled country
roads. The final descent is to
The Maui Winery
, which is the
favorite on the entire Tour. It is hard to believe, but scenery
just gets better and better as we descend to the Winery. There at
the beautiful setting of the Winery, we will enjoy a Deli Style
Lunch. In addition you may visit the Tasting Room and sample their
Wines.
What sets us apart from all the other Tours is our relaxed pace, stunningly beautiful route, smaller group sizes and great personal service. We promise our Tour to be one of the highlights of your visit to Maui.

Haleakala National Park Summit AreaProfile Haleakala, "The House of the Sun", is a dormant volcano and the tallest peak on Maui, reaching 10,023 feet above sea level. The crater itself is large enough to hold the entire island of Manhattan. It is 7.5 miles long, 2.5 miles wide and 3000 feet deep. The crater includes its own mini-mountain range of nine cinder cones - the largest of which is over 1000 feet high. Many believe that Haleakala Crater resembles the surface of the moon or, more likely, Mars with its red hue. Reasons to Visit the Haleakala Summit Area:Some visitors go to Haleakala to see the sun rise over the crater. Others go to hike and camp in the interior. Still others experience the thrill of a bike ride down the long and winding road from the summit to Pa’ia on Maui's North Shore. Dress warmly. The temperatures at the summit are about 32 degrees cooler than at sea level. The winds make it feel even cooler. Diverse Ecology:Be sure to take the time to appreciate the views as you drive along Haleakala Crater Road. You will pass through a diverse ecosystem with forests of eucalyptus and jacaranda and countryside where you can see amazing wildflowers or cattle grazing on the mountainside. Near the summit you may see the ahinahina (Haleakala silversword) and nene (Hawaiian goose). Whatever the reason, a drive to summit of Haleakala is not to be missed. Getting There:Haleakala National Park extends from the 10,023 foot summit of Haleakala down the southeast flank of the mountain to the Kipahulu coast near Hana. The summit and adjacent Haleakala Visitor Center is located 37 miles and two hours east and south of Kahului, Maui. Maps and directions are available in every free Drive Guide available throughout Maui. Season and Hours of Operation:
An admission fee of $10.00 per vehicle is charged at the park entrances. Bicyclists, motorcyclists, and hikers on foot are charged $5.00 each. Credit cards are not accepted. Annual Haleakala passes are available. The National Parks Pass is honored. One-time entrance fees are valid (with receipt) for re-entry into both the Summit and Kipahulu areas of the park for seven days. An entrance fee only is required for those camping within the park except for wilderness cabin rental fees. Visitor Centers and Exhibits:The Park Headquarters Visitor Center and the Haleakala Visitor Center are open daily and year round subject to staff availability. All visitor centers have cultural and natural history exhibits. The Hawaii Natural History Association offers books, maps, and posters for sale. Naturalists are on duty during business hours to answer questions and help you make the most of your visit. Educational programs are offered regularly. Weather and Climate:The weather at the summit of Haleakala National Park is unpredictable and can change quickly. Be prepared for a variety of conditions. Temperatures in the summit area commonly range between 32°F and 65°F. The wind-chill can dramatically drop the temperature below freezing at anytime of year. Intense sunlight, thick clouds, heavy rain, and high winds are possible at any time. Health and Safety Concerns at the Summit:The high altitude at the summit may complicate health conditions and cause breathing difficulties. Pregnant women, young children, and those with respiratory or heart conditions should consult their doctors prior to traveling to high elevations. To help avoid problems, be sure to walk slowly at high elevation, drink lots of water to avoid dehydration. Check in often with elderly friends or relatives to make sure they're doing okay. Turn back and seek medical aid if you have health concerns. Food, Supplies and Accommodations:There are no facilities to purchase food, gasoline, or supplies in the park. Be sure to bring whatever food and other supplies you need before you enter the park. Wilderness camping, car-access camping and wilderness cabins are available at the summit area. Other Concessions and Opportunities:Several private companies operate tours within the park. They include downhill biking on the park road, horseback tours of the wilderness, and guided hikes. Check the yellow pages of the Maui phone book, the activities desks at hotels and resorts, or one of the numerous free publications available throughout Maui for more details. |
