XxX Tiger OSx86 10.4.11 DVD Rev 2 Released

BlackCH has released the latest and final release of his popular XxX Tiger OSx86 10.4.11 Install DVD. The new Rev 2 DVD includes the original PPF1 and PPF2 patches plus all the Apple Software Updates until April 2008 and several new drivers and utility programs (Broadcom WiFi, JMicron and Marvell ATA Driver Controller, Realtek RTL8111/8187/8187B, Generic AC97 Audio, Radeon 7500, SpeedStep.app, Little Snitch, Sowndflower, Perian, Slim Battery Monitor, Kext Helper).

To sum it up, the final DVD includes a plethora of drivers, utilities, and applications. Basically everything you need. If you enlarge the image above, you see exactly what we mean. This DVD includes pretty much a good 3/4 of all the popular OSx86 Drivers on the planet plus extra goodies and utilities. A great example of a perfect install DVD. More information can be found here.

To be a little more precise, you don't need to delte IOUSBFamily.kext but rather IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBOHCI.kext Doing so lets you keep your USB devices and trackpad/keyboard.

Using BitTorrent
To use BitTorrent, first locate the .torrent file for the torrent you want to download. You can copy the .torrent file to the working directory (the first format shown below) or specify it with a --url option (second format). The simplest BitTorrent command lines have the following formats:

$ btdownloadheadless.py --responsefile tfile.torrent [--saveas savefile]

or

$ btdownloadheadless.py --url http://domain/tfile.torrent [--saveas savefile]

where tfile.torrent is the name of, or http://domain/tfile.torrent is the URI for, the .torrent file, and savefile is the location to save the torrent in. In the case of torrents containing a single file, the file is saved as savefile. For torrents containing multiple files, the files are saved in a directory named savefile. If you omit the --saveas argument, the files are saved in the name specified in the .torrent file. Because each of the btdownload*.py applications takes the same arguments, the preceding formats work for all three applications.

Old-time sorting

If you’re accustomed to ASCII sorting, then the results of ls or sort might initially be confusing in a modern locale. Take a look at the difference the locale makes in these two directory listings. The first uses the old-time raw ASCII sort order. In the second, however, the locale “knows” that ‘C’ and ‘c’ are the same letter and that leading dots shouldn’t influence the sorting order.

$ LC_COLLATE="C" ls -a . .. .CCC .ccc AAA BBB aaa bbb $ LC_COLLATE="en_US" ls -a . .. aaa AAA bbb BBB .ccc .CCC

Since I prefer the old sorting order, the first item of business was to alter LC_COLLATE in my shell environment. It appears I could achieve my desired results by setting it to a null value, “POSIX,” or “C.” I use the latter because that’s what the Fedora init scripts use.
