Pageflakes "Blizzard" Release
Dan
Cohen
July 19TH
The waiting is over, Blizzard
is there! First of all, many, many thanks to all users who sent in
feature requests and who participated in our private beta. We
listened carefully and tried to implement as many of your
suggestions as possible. And now, without further ado, let's have a
look at what's new!
Surface
Beauty and Deep Down Goodness
We definitely tarted things up a bit (as you’ll
see) but more importantly made it much easier for both beginners
and experienced Pageflakers to get to their stuff. We’re calling it
One-Button Personalization.
Click the big round Pageflakes button to
add new Flakes, personalize your pages, tweak your (new) Personal
Profile or account settings, or explore Pagecasts. If you can use
an iPod, you can use Pageflakes too. ;-).
Take (or
Make) a Really Good Look
For the first time ever, we’ve added really cool,
flexible Themes that you can apply independently to each of your
pages. There’re nifty pre-cooked color scheme Themes available
along with fun user-created ones like “Grass” and “Pink Pong”. The
cool part is that you can make them your own or create new themes
from scratch. You can
change almost every element, including uploading your own pic to
use as a background or header. If you created a cool new theme, go ahead and submit it. If
we like it, we'll add it to the Themes Gallery that is available to
all users!
Get Up Close
& Personal
Now every Pageflaker can enjoy your mug as
much as your momma does. Fill out your new Personal Profile and add
as much (or as little) information as you want others to see.
Profiles are great for getting your story straight interests
and information out there, getting acquainted with other people and
connecting with friends.
If you've found someone who shares your
interests or who you like, add him or her as a Favorite. Other
users will then see on your Profile that you're
connected.
More
Flakes!
There’s now an unbelievable 240,000 Flakes (give or take) in our Flake directory. If
you still can't find what you're looking for, build your own Flake!
The new Anything Flake lets you create your own Flake by entering
text, adding images and pasting HTML code using a convenient
WYSIWYG editor. That means if you know how to use Word, you can use
this thing. Advanced users can use the Flake in many cool ways, for
example to turn Flash widgets from other sites into
Flakes.
One more thing on Flakes: we’ve upgraded
our RSS Flake to a nifty Multimedia Flake that can serve up any
sort of media your favorite blogger can dish out. Pics, podcasts,
video, and audio are all now supported in the mix. Just add an RSS
feed URL in the Browse Flake area. The Flake will automatically
detect if the feed contains multimedia content and will present it
in the right format.
Grab a
Pagecast!
For those who aren’t familiar with
Pagecasts, they’re user pages that have been shared with selected
other users (Group Pagecasts) or made public to the world (Public
Pagecasts). What's new is that you can now easily add Public
Pagecasts to your own tabs. Now all your favorite Pagecasts are
only one click away. You can keep track of them easily, and see
updates in real-time – this has been requested by many
users.
Another frequent user request was the
ability to get a copy of a Public Pagecast which you can then
modify, and the new Blizzard release allows you to do just that: If
you copy a Public Pagecast as a snapshot, it is addedto your own
tabs like a template and you can edit it to your heart’s
content.
Pagecasting
goes Mainstream
Until now, most of the Pagecasts have been
created by normal users like you and me. Now the mightiest media
companies have started to Pagecast as well! We've partnered with
USA Today, Rolling Stone, CNN, Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive,
Entertainment Tonight, The Insider, Slate, AOL, Die Welt, Bild and
other major U.S. and international media outlets to bring you
Pagecasts with the best content from these guys.
Mac, No
Longer Cheezy
Last but definitely not least, we added
much-needed and requested Safari support! Nuf said?
We hope you love the new features as much
as we loved bringing them to you. For more information, also check
out our What's New
page. Keep that feedback and those requests coming! Please
enjoy.

your new release is awesome!!
you did some great work. thanks for the wonderful servie!
greetings from berlin

The new themes are wonderful! ... For me, the loveliest part of
pageflakes apart from it's wonderful customizations is that it's so
easy on CPU usage of my computer (unlike netvibes) ... !
Thanks for making this a resource that can actually be used along
with all the lovely flakes and customizations ... thanks for making
it ultra usable !
keep up the great work!
Nice, i guess. I may move away from Netvibes if you added a 'find
within my modules' feature like they. also, why add the extra
themes if the same themes does not remain the same throughout each
tab. it would make more sense if it did.
The Safari support is not complete. I tried using Safari for
windows to view my own page and although it showed me the names of
each flakes I have, did not show me the content of any
flake.
